The Listening Post began in the UK after World War 2. It was an effort to prove a reflective space for citizens to explore unconscious processes in the wider society – based on the idea that a group of people – as part of society – would meet together to study the behaviour of the society in the past year in their country or region.
The aim of the Listening Post is to enable citizens to reflect on our own relatedness to society and to try to develop an understanding of what happened in the past year. The experience of the Listening Post is itself, relevant to an understanding of society beyond individual and personal preoccupations. It provides a unique opportunity to learn what others in our communities are thinking and feeling.
Listening Posts take place yearly in January in over 40 countries.
